Overview

This course introduces students to professional 3D modeling and digital prototyping using Autodesk Fusion 360. Students learn how to move from a real problem or product idea into a measured CAD model using sketches, constraints, extrusion, fillets, holes, components, assemblies, and 3D printing preparation. Across 10 sessions, students gradually build the technical and design skills needed to create a final mini project of their choice.

What You’ll Learn?

Understand professional CAD workflows and the role of 3D modeling in product development
Explore Fusion 360 and learn how engineers create accurate digital designs
Develop technical sketches using dimensions, constraints, and design rules
Create complex 3D models using professional modeling features such as extrude, cut, fillet, chamfer, and holes
Apply advanced modeling techniques including revolve, shell, patterns, and mirror features
Understand the difference between bodies, components, and assemblies in CAD systems
Design products with manufacturing and 3D printing requirements in mind
Apply tolerance, strength, and optimization principles to prepare models for fabrication
Export and prepare CAD models for 3D printing workflows
Develop, test, refine, and present a complete product design project

Requirements

Basic 3D modeling experience is recommended
Understanding of measurements, geometry, and design concepts is required
Access to a computer capable of running Fusion 360
Students should follow the engineering product development process:
Define → Sketch → Model → Assemble → Prototype → Test → Improve → Present
Students should consider:
Design requirements
Technical accuracy
Manufacturing limitations
Material and printing constraints
Functionality and usability
Students should document their design process and explain their engineering decisions
Previous professional CAD experience is not required
