Overview

This course introduces Grade 10 students to embedded systems through practical ESP32 projects. Students learn how a small programmable controller can collect information from sensors, process it using MicroPython, control physical outputs, and communicate with phones or web browsers.

What You’ll Learn?

Understand the fundamentals of embedded systems and ESP32-based robotics
Set up and program an ESP32 using MicroPython
Control digital outputs such as LEDs, buzzers, and other electronic components
Use buttons and digital inputs to control robotic systems
Read analog sensors and calibrate sensor values for reliable measurements
Control outputs using PWM, including variable motor and actuator control
Measure temperature and humidity using environmental sensors
Display sensor information using I2C and OLED displays
Measure distance using ultrasonic sensors and use measurements to make decisions
Control servo motors to create physical movement
Use functions, timing, and system states to organize reliable robotic programs
Connect ESP32 systems to Wi-Fi and create basic web-based control
Use Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate with and control embedded systems
Integrate sensors, outputs, actuators, and communication into complete smart systems
Plan, build, test, improve, and present an original ESP32-based robotics project

Requirements

Basic programming knowledge is recommended
Basic electronics concepts are recommended
Access to an ESP32 development board and required electronic components
Access to a computer with a MicroPython development environment
Students should follow the embedded-systems development process:
Understand → Connect → Program → Test → Debug → Integrate → Improve
Students should carefully verify wiring, GPIO assignments, sensor readings, and power requirements before operating their circuits
Students should document their circuits, code, testing results, and improvements
Students should test individual components before integrating them into a complete system
Students should follow safe practices when working with electronic components and power supplies
